Brian Palmer Elected to CHC: Creating Healthier Communities’ National Board of Directors

Gilead Sciences medical scientist and public health leader joins CHC to advance equity and build stronger, healthier communities

Alexandria, VA (July 21, 2022) – CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, a nationwide nonprofit that addresses the barriers to good health and equity, today announced that Dr. Brian Palmer was unanimously elected to its national board of directors.

“Breaking down the barriers to good health and equity is more relevant now than ever,” said Thomas G. Bognanno, president and CEO at CHC. “We’re honored to have Dr. Palmer join us to advance this important work, and we look forward to everything he’ll contribute through his significant public health and medical expertise.”

A board-certified osteopathic physician, Dr. Palmer currently works as an HIV Prevention Medical Scientist at Gilead Sciences and as a consultant for Elevance Health subsidiary Clear Health Alliance. Dr. Palmer has served as the Medical Director for the DeKalb County Board of Health’s HIV Program in Decatur, Georgia, the Medical Director for Clear Health Alliance, (an HIV Medicaid Specialty Plan throughout the state of Florida), and as the Medical Program Administrator and Lab Director of the Fulton County Department of Health in Atlanta, GA. He began his medical career in the New Jersey Prison system where he was the Assistant Medical Director at the Hudson County Correctional Center and Associate Medical Director of the Bayside State Prison.

“It’s a privilege to join the CHC board,” said Dr. Palmer, board director at CHC. “I’ve dedicated my career to public health, especially serving those at higher-risk or most in need, and I look forward to bringing that experience to CHC as we work together to create healthier communities for all people.”

Dr. Palmer received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, earned a master’s degree in public health from Emory University and completed his residency in Preventive Medicine at the Morehouse School of Medicine. He is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University where he attained a Bachelor of Science degree in life sciences.
