Black History Month and Our Commitment to Shaping the Future

Black History Month is more than a celebration—it’s a testament to the power of resilience, the fight for justice, and the unwavering belief in a better tomorrow. It is a time to honor those who, despite the odds, paved the way for progress. And it is a call to each of us to pick up the torch and continue their work.
At CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, we know that health is more than healthcare—it is dignity, opportunity, and justice. Yet, for too long, Black communities have faced systemic barriers to well-being. Higher rates of chronic disease, maternal mortality, and preventable illness are not just statistics; they are a reflection of deep-rooted inequities that demand action.
But let’s be clear—this is not a zero-sum game. Advancing health equity for Black communities does not come at the expense of others. When we break down barriers, expand access to care, and invest in healthier communities, everyone benefits. This is not about “us vs. them”—it’s about all of us, together, creating a society where everyone has the opportunity to live a long, healthy life.
This Black History Month, we don’t just remember the past—we commit to shaping the future. A future where no zip code, skin color, or income level determines whether someone thrives or struggles. A future where our collective well-being is built on justice, inclusion, and shared progress.
We stand on the shoulders of giants—visionaries, healers, and change-makers who refused to accept the status quo. Now, it’s our turn. Our moment to create real, lasting change. To build bridges, not walls. To invest in solutions that lift us all.
This is our charge. This is our movement. This is our time.
Who will you lift up? How will you use your voice? What action will you take?
Let’s make history together. Not just this month, but every day.
