King County Employees Raise More than $44,000 to Support Doctors Without Borders’ Earthquake Response
CHC: Creating Healthier Communities partner King County led a special fundraising campaign to support Doctors Without Borders in response to the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria in February of this year. King County employees contributed more than $44,000 to this campaign.
Dow Constantine, King County Executive, led this special 21-day King County appeal in response to the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck near the Turkey-Syria border. King County’s quick response will contribute to aid still needed to support thousands of displaced people amid the ongoing disaster.
Doctors Without Borders is a CHC nonprofit partner that brings medical humanitarian assistance to victims of conflict, natural disasters, epidemics and health care exclusion. Thousands of people in Turkey and Syria are still reeling from deadly earthquakes and aftershocks that struck the region in February, killing more than 50,000 people. In northwest Syria, Doctors Without Borders was able to respond within hours due to an existing presence. Doctors Without Borders has since provided tents, winter kits, trauma kits and other urgently needed medical supplies to the entire region affected, in addition to supporting facilities in the area responding to the crisis.
“Thank you, King County Employees! Your support inspired by our response to the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria helps Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) provide lifesaving medical care to people caught in emergencies like natural disasters, disease outbreaks, conflict, and the effects of climate change. Donors like you help ensure access to medical care for millions of patients who rely on MSF for surgery, vaccines, psychosocial support, disease treatment, and much more.” – Doctors Without Borders
