Help Support Communities Impacted by Hurricane Laura

On Thursday, August 27 Hurricane Laura roared through southwestern Louisiana. This was the strongest hurricane to hit Louisiana in over a century. The storm, now a tropical depression, tore apart homes and businesses, knocked out power, and caused damage in multiple states along its path in addition to causing a chemical fire near Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Laura is one of more than a dozen named Atlantic storms in what forecasters have described as an extremely active 2020 season. “This is one of the most active seasonal forecasts that NOAA has produced in its 22-year history of hurricane outlooks,” said Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross in a May 21 statement.
